The second full-length album of BESPROSVETIYE continues the line of their debut — the audio play ‘Nichego Ne Budet’ (There Will Be Nothing). However this time the story is about a boy named Alyosha, whose family is falling apart suffering from alcoholism and psychosis. The outwardly prosperous family cracks. The father becomes alcohol-dependent, falls into a depression and commits suicide — puts his wedding suit on and cuts his veins in a bathroom. Unable to withstand the shock, the mother loses her mind: starts talking to mirrors, hearing voices from the electrical sockets and ends up in a psychiatric hospital. Left alone, teen-aged Alyosha sinks into a catatonic stupor, from which he rarely emerges. However his mind breeds a grandiose fantasy: he is a prince of a ‘crystal kingdom’, his father is an enchanted king, his mother is a brainsick queen, while the reality is a combination of hospital walls, Milky Way and childhood fears. In line with the debut, this album is dominated by melodic DSBM with dirty guitars, shriek, screaming, post-rock inserts, spoken word fragments and female vocals rarely used in this genre. But the dramatic spoken vocal remains at the forefront, creating the effect of an audiobook and immersing listeners into the delusional state of mind of the main character. ‘Tayna Mlechnogo Puti’ shows how the child’s mind is building a bridge between the unbearable reality and mythology, turning family tragedy into a cosmic fairy tale. It gives no unambiguous answers — only painful search for meaning and a question that remains unanswered: “Why am here?”. The story of Alyosha is a second part of an audio saga that probably will be continued. BESPROSVETIYE is not just another metal band. It’s an audio play, where music is a backdrop, while the word carries the main idea.
