STYXIAN INDUSTRIES "Zero.Void.Nullified {Of Apathy And Armageddon}"

Styxian Industries are a band from the Netherlands that plays an industrial form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Zero.Void.Nullified {Of Apathy And Armageddon}" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records and More Hate Productions. Static and radio noises start off the album before adding in heavy tremolo picking and angry spoken word parts while the drum programming gives the music more of an industrial feeling and after awhile high pitched black metal screams and death metal growls make their presence known on the recording. When the music speeds up it goes for more of a raw style of the genre along with a great amount of blast beats and the vocals also get very grim at times while t he songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the music also gets very experimental at times.and there is also a brief use of clean singing on some of the songs along with some synths being added into certain sections of the recording and some songs also mix in more of a sci fi atmosphere. Styxian Industries plays a musical style that takes a very raw form of black metal ad mixes it in with a heavy industrial sound to create a musical style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover abstract concepts and defying reality themes. In my opinion Styxian Industries are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal and industrial and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "You" "Whiskey Vodka Blood" "Wasted World" and "Execute Planet Earth". 8 out of 10.

Dutch industrial black metallers Styxian Industries have been around since 2007 and Zero.Void.Nullified marks their long awaited debut album. From the opening barrage of Feed Us it’s clear it has been worth the wait. Stark, furious yet industrially controlled this is the sound of all your favourite black metal bands being thrown in a blender with a maniacal EBM producer. The album as a whole swings effortlessly between the cold Nordic fury of traditional black metal and the slower mid paced industrial stomp more often associated with the likes of Rammstein, with Salvation being a noticeable example. If there is any criticism to be levelled at the album it’s that there is perhaps not enough variation (with the exception of the short viciously industrial Bastard God and riff soaked crust punk of We Took the World) and after a while things do start to sound a tad… samey. Thankfully the music is of such high quality that this isn’t as detrimental as it could have been.

You know that sort of tremelo-driven yet wide open and majestic feel you get with Gorgoroth? OK, now cross that with an odd industrial orientation, utilizing more samples of churning pistons and suchlike than purists ever cussed about appearing on albums like Destroyer and Incipit Satan. It’s hardly Rammstein or Laibach, much less Skinny Puppy, but it’s a strange fit. Luckily for Styxian Industries, it meshes well enough…or the power and scope of their riffing and sound otherwise proves engaging enough…to allow all but the most orthodox of fans to appreciate what they have to offer. They’re a Dutch act, which may account for the strangeness here – the Low Countries are noted mainly for their gothic/symphonic scene, not black metal (or for that matter, industrial). Did I mention the aforementioned guitarist bringing so much majesty and authority was a female? Talk about taking things outside the standard box… Even so, the sound overall (there are some odd variations in style and production quality from track to track) was evocative enough of old school second wave Norwegian black metal (and Gorgoroth in particular) to work for me. Recommended. Give it a listen, you’ll probably be hooked right off.

This band is based in Netherlands and they have released only EP`s, compilation, splits, demos over the past 7 years. Never full album was out, until now. Those are my thoughts on Zero Void Nullified if you dare to continue your reading... First of all, the album has very harsh production, mainly black metal approach on guitars and mostly on vocal parts which are subtly distorted. Drums are quite surprise because they sounds mechanical, very none organic even if there is a living person in their line-up that handles percussion. It sounds very industrial, dehumanized. Like it was programmed by the computer, not played by human being which I do not know if it`s true because I am not a musician or studio producer to verify facts about live-drumming or not on this record. However, conventional black metal they do makes huge impact in connection to those industrial-like beats and pieces. Lyrical topics are about extinction of humanity, senselessness of life on earth, who we are, where we come from, where we go to and basically, that everything should be erased and destroyed. Maximum pessimistic stuff overall but who would not appreciate a little nemesis that cleanse out the evil alter ego for sake to feel good for yourself, right? I have to tell you the longer this record lasts the more industrial, techno-electronic it becomes along the metal which is always present, of course. Even vocals are more experimental and noisy than it was in the beginning of the album. So, no worries about diversity of the songs as they handle this matter pretty well. And have to tell you ending up this review... This record is imperfect the way it sounds and has apocalyptic-suicidal word patterns that brings nothing new to the genres by any meaning. But I enjoy it, I like it for what it is and appreciate the band for what they do with their armageddon metal.
